Universal Design
Built for everyone in the room.
A live audience is never one kind of person. NextWave is designed so every attendee — using a keyboard, a screen reader, a phone in bright sun, or just a preference for less motion — can join the drawing, scan the card, and take part. Accessibility isn't a checkbox we add at the end; it's how the product is built.
WCAG 2.2 AA is the floor, not the goal
Island Pitch holds every product to WCAG 2.2 AA as a hard minimum and reaches for AAA wherever it's achievable — our house rule is “Do Cool Things the Right Way!” That standard is verified in code, not just promised.
- Keyboard-operable, everywhere. Every control — drawings, votes, check-ins, the member portal — works with Tab, Enter, Space, and Escape. No mouse required.
- Screen-reader ready. Proper headings, landmarks, labels on every field, and live regions that announce results as they happen.
- Respects reduced motion. Animations honor the visitor's
prefers-reduced-motionsetting in both CSS and JavaScript. - Legible and high-contrast. 4.5:1 text contrast, generous touch targets, and never color as the only signal for status or errors.
- Automated a11y gates in CI. Axe-core accessibility checks and keyboard-navigation tests run on every change — a regression fails the build.
- A published commitment. Every property ships an accessibility statement with our standard, known limitations, and a way to reach us.
Live events have the most diverse audiences of all
The room at a fundraiser, a nightlife show, or a conference spans every ability, age, and device. An experience that only works for some of them isn't finished.
- Physical and digital inclusion together. NFC cards, QR codes, and on-screen flows give people more than one way in — tap, scan, or a staff-read code at a kiosk.
- Nobody is left waiting on a ticket. Consent, sign-up, and account controls are self-service and accessible, not a form you have to phone in.
- Designed with empowerment in mind. The same team builds Empowering Differences, Ashley T. Brundage's empowerment measurement tool — inclusion is in the DNA of the platform, not an afterthought.
